Rony Kozman

Visiting professor of New TestamenT

Rony loves teaching. He has enjoyed seasons as a course instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Toronto; as a high school theology teacher; and as a Latin teacher to elementary students. Rony currently serves as assistant professor of Biblical and Religious Studies at Samford University. He also has a variety of leadership experience—as a youth pastor, pastoral intern, and worship leader, as well as mentoring college students and teaching Scripture to ex-offenders.

In addition, Rony has built bridges between academia and the church. This passion led him to co-found the Network of Christian Scholars Toronto, which connected Christian scholars (from various fields) with the church to equip Christians for wise witness.

Rony studied at McMaster University (Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry; Master of Arts, Religious Studies), Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY (Master of Divinity), and completed his Ph.D. in the Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. Rony’s research focuses on ancient Jewish and Christian interpretations of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. He is especially interested in the New Testament and Second Temple Judaism including Paul, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Apocrypha. His dissertation shows how ancient Jews, including Paul, interpreted Adam and Eve to voice ideas about moral epistemology, natural law, and revelation.

Rony is married to Megan, and they have two sons, Lincoln and Levi. He and his family live in Alabama.
