Tennent might just work for you when nothing else would:
We’ve thought about your family.
We’ve thought about your finances.
We’ve thought about your heart.
We’ve thought about your calling, and we want you to stay where you are.

How is Tennent Unique?
Our four core distinctives are retreat, cohort, family, and mission. Every student at Tennent enjoys our amazing retreat setting in a consistent cohort of dedicated students. We also encourage students to bring their families along to our one- to two-week residencies as an amazing opportunity for connection and rest. Students participate in an overseas trip as the capstone of the Tennent experience. In addition, Tennent degrees are intentionally designed from start to finish, not as a haphazard collection of classes, but as an integrated curriculum that helps students perceive the relationship between biblical studies, applied theology, and historical theology.
How does this actually work?
Accepted students are quickly sorted into cohorts. The first set of syllabi go out, and students collect their beautiful stack of books. On a given day, the cohort assembles for their first interaction via Zoom, meeting professors, asking questions, and getting the lay of the land. Students begin reading and writing, preparing their hearts and minds for the first residency. The residencies are where the magic happens. Students gather in Colorado and attend classes all together. After residency, they synthesize all the material they’ve learned, wrapping up final assignments for each class. The whole time, students stay active in the ministries and places to which God has called them, no move required.
What will my family be doing during the residency?
Families will enjoy a restful vacation at our retreat center. They will join students for meals, mingling and chatting with other families and professors. They’ll be welcomed at chapel services, cookouts, and fun activities, but we won’t over-schedule them. While there will be plenty of optional events, we won’t require or expect them to join in unless they’d like to. For the most part, evenings and weekends are your own, set aside to spend time with your family.
Where is Tennent located?
Tennent partners with retreat centers in and around Woodland Park, Colorado. The site of your residency may vary, but our priorities in choosing a location for each cohort remain the same: to find a comfortable, beautiful facility that can accommodate families not far off the beaten path, at an affordable price.
How does the calendar work?
We operate according to a rolling calendar, with new cohorts beginning all the time. Each cohort has a unique start date. Both full-time and part-time tracks include a ramp-up phase before the residency dedicated to reading and preparation, and a wind-down period after the residency for writing and reflection.
When should I apply?
Don’t procrastinate! Keep an eye on the website or our social media pages for announcements about when the next cohort is slated to begin. We accept applications year-round, and will immediately begin the conversation with you about which cohort is the best option for you. Your first term’s reading will begin three to six months prior to the first in-person residency, and we don’t want you to fall behind. Apply today!
How much work is involved in full-time seminary?
As implied, the full-time track is a full time Master’s program. In order to make your workload more manageable, we operate year-round, giving you a longer period of time to complete your work. For full-time students, a term is considered to be six months, with the two-week residency in the middle. On the high end, students should expect to devote about 20-25 hours per week to their studies. For more detail, see “Degrees at a Glance.” All students can expect flexible breaks sprinkled throughout the year.
How is the Part-time track different?
Part-timers come out for residency only two weeks per year, spreading out the cost and workload over a longer period. Students end up with the same degree as their full-time counterparts. The semester track allows students to come out twice a year for one week, while the annual track allows students to come out once a year for two weeks. Check out our News & Events page to see which cohort is currently accepting applications.
Is discounted tuition available for my spouse?
We believe that couples have a beautiful opportunity to serve Christ together, and we want to equip you to do that well. Spouses are always welcome to audit classes. Qualified spouses may also apply for the Priscilla and Aquila Scholarship, which provides up to 75% free tuition for one of the two students. Spouses must individually meet admission standards, apply separately, and agree to study concurrently as a couple to be eligible for this award.
I’m in! But I still have questions.
We’d love to chat! Our admissions team is always happy to answer questions, or we can put you in touch with other students or faculty for a different perspective. Please feel free to reach out!
